Rural Communities in Transition

This fourth State of the Nation in Sustainable Human Development report considers Human Development in Costa Rica in very special times, focusing on the “Huetar Norte” region. It documents how different social, economic, political and institutional actors have contributed to the development of the country. Past successful formulas are not enough to confront old and new challenges, but new formulas are not going to be successful if they don’t have legitimacy. This report shows that the country isn’t managing to successfully face the actual challenge of Sustainable Human Development.
