Development-Oriented Policies and Alternative Human Development Paths

Development-oriented policies have a significant impact on the course of human development. Most of the literature exploring such policies focuses, however, on a single target issue (e.g., poverty reduction, education, health, agriculture or trade), and on a single policy or a small set of policies. One can see such specialization quite quickly simply by looking at leading studies—see, for example, Aghion and Durlauf 2005; Perkins, Radelet and Lindauer 2006; or Todaro and Smith 2012.
