Astra Bonini is a Research Specialist with the Human Development Report Office. She has extensive research experience in the political economy of global inequality and international development, governance for the provision of public goods, and development in natural resource based economies. Her research draws on her training in comparative and world historical sociology. Most recently she was a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with the Committee on Global Thought at Columbia University. Astra has taught at Columbia University and Johns Hopkins University and has worked for the UNDP Sustainable Energy group, UNDP Mongolia, and the UN Statistics Division. Astra earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University.
